Dr. Garlich’s Post Op Sinus and/or Septoplasty/Turbinate Reduction Surgery Instructions

• Start with clear liquids after surgery then progress your diet as tolerated.
• Expect some mild to moderate pain and don’t be afraid to take your pain medicine as prescribed.
• Take nausea medication and antibiotics as directed (if prescribed).
• Do not take NSAIDS (Aspirin, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Aleve, Advil) or products that contain NSAIDS for 2 weeks unless instructed to do so by Dr. Garlich.
• Expect some nasal congestion for up to 2 weeks.
• Expect some bloody drainage from your nose for up to 7 days.  Use the nasal drip pad/gauze with tape as needed for drainage.
• DIRECTLY after arriving home from surgery, MINIMIZE activity as much as possible until bleeding has significantly decreased.
• If you experience any nasal bleeding, stop any activity and rest with your head elevated, such as in a recliner.  Continue limiting activity until your physician instructs you otherwise.
• Use 2 squirts of Afrin Nasal Spray in each nostril 4 times daily.  Do not use longer than 4 days.
• Starting the day after surgery, begin Neil-Med Saline Rinse in each nostril 4-5 times a day while awake and continue until your physician instructs you to stop.  Use ONLY Distilled Water for the rinse.  If you have nasal splints in place, begin the rinse after the splints are removed.
• No heavy lifting or strenuous activity for 2 weeks.
• Sleep with your head elevated, such as in a recliner, until nasal bleeding stops completely.
• No nose blowing.  Keep mouth open when sneezing.

INSTRUCCIONES POST-OP DEL DR. GARLICH PARA LA CIRUGIA DEL SENO NASAL Y/O SEPTOPLASTIA/REDUCCION DE CORNETE

• Empiece con una dieta de líquidos claros después de la cirugía y luego avance a su dieta normal según la tolere.
• Anticipe tener dolor leve a moderado y no tenga miedo de tomar su medicina para el dolor según las indicaciones.
• Tome los medicamentos para la náusea y antibiótico según las indicaciones (si le fueron recetados).
