Physician

Dr. Mariann McElwain, M.D., Ph.D., is a board-certified otolaryngologist specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of ear, nose, and throat disorders. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Franklin & Marshall College, completed her Ph.D. at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and received her medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo. She then completed her residency in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. McElwain is a Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy (AAOA) and an active member of both the AAOA and the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery.
Dr. McElwain has extensive expertise in evaluating and managing environmental and sinonasal allergies, allergic rhinitis, and sino-nasal headaches, offering allergy testing and two types of allergy immunotherapy: allergy injections (shots) and sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT). She also provides care for patients with pet and pollen sensitivities and emphasizes personalized, long-term treatment plans for chronic allergy-related conditions. In addition, she treats hearing and balance disorders, sleep-related breathing conditions, and conditions involving the voice and swallowing. With nearly three decades of clinical experience, she incorporates a holistic approach to ENT wellness- integrating nutrition, exercise, and overall health while minimizing medication use when appropriate.
Outside of medicine, Dr. McElwain has been married for more than 30 years to Dr. Jonathan Urffer, an internal medicine physician with the Department of Veterans Affairs. They are the proud parents of two adult children, including a daughter who lives in North Georgia. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, cooking, discovering new restaurants, and meeting new people.
