Snoring

Snoring is a common condition that can affect anyone.  Some individuals, like those who may be overweight, are more susceptible to snore. Snoring typically worsens with age.  Although occasional snoring is nothing more than annoying, more habitual snoring could be a sign of a bigger problem.

Snoring Side Effects

Habitual snorers are typically at risk for serious health problems including sleep apnea.  Sleep apnea can create a variety of problems including:

  • Long pauses between breaths
  • Frequently waking up during the night
  • Light sleeping
  • Poor night’s sleep
  • Strain on the heart

What Causes Snoring

When airflow through the nose and mouth are obstructed, a person can snore.  Airflow can be obstructed due to a number of reasons including obstructive airways because of sinus problems, poor muscle tone in the throat and tongue, and bulky throat tissue just to name a few.
